Education

God’s Hand in Our Lives Sunday School series – In obedience to our Lord’s command to “Go and make disciples of all nations…”, the CLC has begun a project to produce a Sunday School series which can be used by not only its own membership, but also by anyone wishing to help children become more familiar with the most important book in their lives, the Bible.

The purpose of our schools

“Train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6

We believe that the Lutheran school is a proper response to God’s concern for the Christian education of children. God leaves no doubt about His expectations in Christian education. Both in commands and in promises He expresses His earnest concern for the Christian upbringing of children.

God’s Command:

“Bring up your children in the training and instruction of the Lord” (Eph 6:4).

How we are to do this?

“Teach them (God’s words) diligently to your children” (Deut 4:7).

Why are we to do this?

“That they may place their hope in God” (Psalm 78:7).

We believe so strongly in the importance of Christian Education that our members and congregations have worked, prayed and sacrificed to establish and maintain our elementary and secondary schools. To assist with these goals, the CLC has established the Board of Education and Publications.

Board of Education and Publications

The BoEP was established by the CLC with the following duties ((CLC Constitution, Bylaw 3: Board of Education and Publications) pages 12-13

  1. The Board of Education and Publications shall give assistance in educational matters as requested by congregations, pastoral or teachers’ conferences, the Coordinating Council and the Church of the Lutheran Confession.
  2. It shall oversee the CLC Book House, the Lutheran Spokesman, the Journal of Theology, and the Ministry by Mail.
  3. It shall encourage the establishment and expansion of parochial schools.
  4. It shall develop new publications and provide technical support for CLC members wishing to produce new materials.”

Projects

In response to its directive from the CLC, the BoEP has been involved in a number of projects including the following:

Financing to support BoEP projects comes from two sources.

  • One is from a budget line of the Board of Education and Publication established by the 2024 CLC Convention.
  • The other is from the newly established EduK8 Fund . This fund was originated by the 2022 CLC Convention and established by the 2024 CLC Convention with the following words: “resolved ‘that we establish a Fund for Christian Education to be administered by the CLC Board of Trustees at the direction of the BoEP and for the purpose of assisting CLC congregations in the establishment and ongoing support of Christian Day Schools.’ That fund has been created and been named the EduK8 Fund.” (2024 CLC Convention, Proceedings page 107)

Our Elementary Schools

Many of our congregations provide a Christian elementary education for their students. Teachers and volunteers are committed to providing a quality education, integrating our Christian beliefs into all aspects of their education.

We are blessed to see these students continue on to high school, college, and careers living the faith they have been taught — and becoming productive citizens of their congregations and communities.

One of the directives to the Board of Education and Publications is that of “assisting CLC congregations in the establishment and ongoing support of Christian Day Schools.” The Eduk8 Fund (read Spokesman article here) is one way of assisting in the support.  From this fund, the BoEP has supported one existing congregation to restart its school and Lord willing, is prepared to help the establishment of a new school in 2026.
