Grade School Basketball Tournament Guidelines

  • Players participating must be in grades 5-8.  All children of your congregation—boys or girls, day school, home school, and public—are welcome to play.  NOTE THE EXCEPTIONS BELOW.
  • The teams will be co-ed and each team must have at least one girl/boy on the playing floor at all times. NOTE EXCEPTIONS BELOW.
  • All teams are organized into C groups—5th-8th grade.
  • The team listed as HOME will provide a scorekeeper for their game.
  • Games will consist of two 18-minutes halves, with running time except for the last 2 minutes of the game.
  • Games will be played every hour.
  • There will be a 3 minute half-time period.
  • Each team will have 3 timeouts per game.
  • No press!  Initial front court pressure may begin once the ball has passed the blue line (10 foot spike line for volleyball).  Once the offense has penetrated this blue line, the defense may pressure the whole front court.  The area between the half court line and blue line is not a “free zone” for the offensive team.
  • Press exception—Any team may press in the final two minutes of the game.  However, the team ahead may not press if ahead by 7 points or more.
  • No zone defense.
  • All teams must have numbered uniforms of some type.  If possible, no two players should have the same number.
  • No player shall participate on more than one team.
  • The basketball used in the games will be a 28.5 women’s basketball ball.
  • Games may start no earlier than 10 minutes prior to their scheduled start times.
  • EXCEPTIONS—In unusual circumstances, exceptions to the above guidelines may be granted with the approval of the tournament directors.
